Merry Marinated! Now that #Marinated is officially 21, we're having a lot of fun experimenting with mixed drinks. And there's no better time than the holidays to have fun with alcohol, right? This hard cider was super delicious and you could barely taste the rum. And those are the best kind of drinks. What's incredible about this also is that it's made with our very own easy peasy caramel sauce, adding an unbeatable homemade element to the mix. Heheh. Get it? ...... I'm sorry. Our jokes will be better next time. 

Rum Caramel Cider


1 parts apple cider 

Half part any dark rum of your choosing 

Half part rum caramel sauce 


Rum Caramel Sauce

1/2 stick butter

1/2 cup white sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar 

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 cup light cream


In a large sauce pan, start melting the butter over medium high heat. Add all the sugar and the vanilla. Once all the sugar is melted, add the cream. If the sauce looks too thick, add just a splash of water. The sauce should be thin until it begins to boil, thickening the sauce. When it boils, lower the heat. Making a caramel is all about patience and tempering the heat, making sure to burn it, but not burn it too much. Know what I'm saying? Just keep it stirring it over a gentle heat. It's done when it coats the spoon you're stirring with, because that means all the liquid has evaporated out. Take it off the heat and let cool.

Stir the cooled-off caramel, rum, and cider in a large pitcher. This drink is delicious served hot or cold, so you can enjoy it on a snowy day or an Indian summer. Pour into a glass and top with just a sprinkle of cinnamon. Enjoy! And of course... drink responsibly ;)
